In the comfort and beauty of Glen Gardens, a house concert venue in Old Ottawa South, my friend and very talented singer-songwriter Jon Davis will be taking the stage to perform some of his excellent original material. Jon has an extraordinary voice and songs that will melt, shatter and uplift your heart.

I will be playing a solo set of recent material to open the show. I hope to see you there.

Benefit for community programs in Arnprior with Craig Cardiff

This is an event that I’m really looking forward to. One, I always like working with organizations in Communities that are doing good work. In this case, Hollow Tree Yoga, a hub for the yoga community in the Arnprior area, is holding a benefit concert for the Galilee Centre and it’s Community programs which benefit children and families in need.

Second, I will get a chance to open for Craig Cardiff, a singer-songwriter and performer who has done a great deal to promote and define folk music and acoustic performance in this part of the world.

It’s guaranteed to be a rich evening of music and feeling good. Showtime is 7pm, Thursday July 29th. The venue is Hollow Tree Yoga: 150 John St. N, Arnprior ON. Tickets are available through the venue and are 10$ in advance and 15$ at the door.

New band at the Elmdale Tavern, opener Mateo Tomlinson from Montreal

Joining me at the Elmdale tavern next Wednesday night, the 16th will be Jason Redmond on bass and Mike Desroches on drums. These guys, members of the local band “Slow Dance” make a solid rhythm section and I’m really looking forward to the show.

Mateo Tomlynson will be opening, and I’m really thrilled because he’s just a great singer/songwriter. If you enjoy artists like Rufus Wainright or Jason Collett, you’ll totally dig Mateo’s stuff.

Door’s at 8, show starts at 9, cover is a mere 5$. See you there!

These are five new songs in a simple, paired-down production that comes close to the intimate setting of a live show. NYC and “Falling Open”

Just crawled home from my first trip to New York City where I proudly performed at the launch of spoken word artist Luna Allison’s “Falling Open”. I’d like to say the show went off without a hitch, but instead let me say that we put on a solid performance and the in-house and internet audience were touched and moved by the emotional force of this powerful piece. Thanks to the Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village for hosting the launch.

I’ve been working with Luna over the last year and a half, and composed and performed the music for this epic 90 minute poetry show. Keep posted for times and dates in other venues here in Canada and elsewhere.

Earth hour

March 28th at 8:30pm, people around the world will be turning off their lights in support of Earth Hour, an initiative spearheaded by the World Wildlife Federation to draw attention to the impact our use of electricity has on the planet’s resources. I encourage everyone to take part, and this website will be inactive during that period. I’m also holding an unplugged, candle-lit concert that evening. Now I’m not normally a very political person. And I’m sure that, aside from seeking to slash arts funding, perpetuating abysmal environmental and copyright legislation, and generally generally making Canada a less pleasant place to be, Stephen Harper is a swell candidate.

Harvest time

Okay, this is definitely my favorite time of the year. Whether it’s because of the crackling leaves, the brisk and lively wind that tells me change is coming, or the chance to wear warm, comforting clothes, I’ll never know. No, it’s the pumpkin pie. By the way, the Kingston farmer’s market is totally great.

This week I am looking forward to performing at the annual Harvestfest, which takes place north of Toronto. It’s a weekend of camping, workshops, music and ritual work around the time of harvest and the bounty of the earth. I’ll be joined again by my friend Jeremy Sills, and the lovely Theda Phoenix from Vancouver as well as a host of other great talent. Night of the Misfits

I had the pleasure of pitching in some percussion tracks onto a recent CD project by the name of “Night of the Misfits”. The music of Margaret Feuerstack is delicate, tasty and evocatively moody. It is a lovely listen and conjures melodic images of the swing era and tin pan alley, even a little classic western.
